[더오그래픽] 요단 동쪽에 있는 성읍으로, 자보크 북쪽 평지에 있으며 자보크에서 약 1마일 떨어진 곳에 있는 높은 언덕인 텔 다라알라(Tell Dar’ala)와 동일시되며, 이는 잔해의 무더기이다(수 13:27). 여기서 야곱(창 32:17,30; 33:17)은 에서와 면담한 후 바단아람에서 돌아오는 길에 자기 자신을 위한 집을 짓고 가축을 위한 초막을 만들었다. 이 성읍의 방백들은 길보아에서 거대한 승리를 거둔 후 “피곤하지만 쫓아가는” 기드온과 그의 300명이 도망친 미디안 무리 중 하나를 추격할 때 거칠게 도움을 거절하였다. 기드온은 카르코르에서 이 무리를 추격하여 무찌른 후 돌아오는 길에 이 성읍의 통치자들에게 심한 벌을 내렸다. “그가 성읍의 장로들을 잡아와서 광야의 가시덤불과 가시나무로 숙곳 사람들을 가르쳤다”(삿 8:13-16). 이 곳에서 성전(聖殿)의 금속 공예품을 주조하기 위한 주물소가 세워졌다(왕상 7:46).

[Theographic] A city on the east of Jordan, identified with Tell Dar’ala, a high mound, a mass of debris, in the plain north of Jabbok and about one mile from it (Josh. 13:27). Here Jacob (Gen. 32:17, 30; 33:17), on his return from Padan-aram after his interview with Esau, built a house for himself and made booths for his cattle. The princes of this city churlishly refused to afford help to Gideon and his 300 men when “faint yet pursuing” they followed one of the bands of the fugitive Midianites after the great victory at Gilboa. After overtaking and routing this band at Karkor, Gideon on his return visited the rulers of the city with severe punishment. “He took the elders of the city, and thorns of the wilderness and briers, and with them he taught the men of Succoth” (Judg. 8:13-16). At this place were erected the foundries for casting the metal-work for the temple (1 Kings 7:46).
